Narrative Assessment - Literacy - 18 June 2015

Learner: Jessica L     Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg              Date: 18 June 2015
Learning Area: Literacy - Reading
Learning Observed
Today Jessica was reading “The Monster Town”. Jessica was able to point to the words while I read, “This is the school”. We turned the page. Jessica read without finger pointing “this is the swimming pool”. Jessica had looked at the picture. I pointed at the word pool and said “this is the pool”. I reminded her to finger point and she was able to point and read “this is the zoo”.
Evidence of learning

Jessica is starting to point to the words as she reads. I wonder if she does this at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Jessica scored 1/24 on the Duncan Basic Word Assessment. She is developing her Capabilities in reading. Jessica is able to work out where to place her finger when reading (Thinking). She is starting to read the texts independently (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).
Next Learning Steps
  • More teaching on basic sight words
  • Continue to encourage finger pointing to the words
  • Share learning with home
